Cheap Find: Sofn’ free Grow Healthy Deep Conditioner worked for me!

Howdy all!

I don’t know about you but my New Year’s resolution this year, and every year, is to save more and spend less. That definitely applies to purchasing tons of hair products as though I don’t have other bills to pay. Well here is a less expensive product that works great if you are in the market for a good deep conditioner!

Sofn’free GroHealthy Milk Protein & Olive Oil Really Deep Conditioning Treatment (found at your local beauty supply store)

Here are pics of my application. I usually do a protein-based deep condition about once a month.
Step 1: After shampooing I applied the conditioner to my hair in 4 sections and detangled with the conditioner in.
Step 2: I put on a plastic cap and then a knit hat on top of that and let the conditioner sit for about 6 hours. This allowed the heat from my head to “heat up” the conditioner instead of me sitting under a dryer or heat cap (I can’t hold still that long!)
Step 3: I rinsed it out with warm water at first followed by cold water and voila! My hair was very soft but not fuzzy or frizzy.
I will definitely be using this product again when I deep condition! And at less than $7 it’s a steal!

MahoganyBella’s World Natural Hair Show Hairstyle

Hey chicas! This post is super late but better late than never.

So I felt like being “cute” for the World Natural Hair Show. :) I wanted a unique hairstyle that would make heads turn. I got my wish! Here are the pics…I hope you like it!

How did I acheive this look? I shampooed and conditioned my hair and applied a leave-in conditioner. I sealed in the moisture with grape seed oil and protected my hair with a cream press. I blow dried my hair to stretch out the curls.

Products used:

Kera Care Cream Press – used to blow dry and stretch my hair.

Silky Milk Setting Lotion – used on the front of my hair to set the twists on rods.

Komaza Care’s Califia Cream Moisturizer – used as a moisturizer to set my twists.

The front of my hair was two strand twisted and rolled on perm rods.

The outcome…

Have you winterized your hair?

For your home you make sure your furnace is in good working order. For your wardrobe you pull out your sweaters and your boots. But how do you prepare your hair for the winter time?

For me in the past I would blow dry my hair before styling so that I wouldn’t have to deal with the elements and a wet head. Well this year will be different. I have found that while my hair isn’t drying out, my scalp is with the blow drying even though I only blow dry for about 15 minutes tops (I let my hair mostly air dry at home). So I am nixing the blow drying. Does that mean I will be going out with a wet head? Heckkkk no!!! I am fighting off the sniffles as we speak! I think I will try the following this winter to see how my hair behaves through these chilly months:

  1. Co- wash only (which will be hard because I use a lot of product with each style and always feel the need to start the next style with a “clean slate”)
  2. Refrain from blow drying and allow hair to just air dry.
  3. Use heavy, cream based products and oils to seal in the moisture while my hair is wet and then style.
  4. Try my best to do styles that will last longer than a week (I already feel a big, fat fail coming on on this one)
  5. Ignore the massive shrinkage that will take place with wet styling vs dry styling (this shouldn’t be a problem as I am sick of all this hair anyway)
  6. Invest in a few more hats and scarves because I also feel hair-laziness coming on (hell it’s already here!!)
What are your plans for your hair this winter? Keep in mind though, plans do change and no one is gonna hold you to these!

I got Indian in my family

Psyche!! But what I do have is a love for Indian or Ayurvedic hair oils.

More specifically I love Brahmi, Shikaki and Vatika oil (Vatika is a combination of many different oils in a base of coconut oil). I also have, but have yet to try, Jasmine and Amla oil although I have used Amla powder.

After my shampoo and conditioning routine I section my hair (still wet) and add leave in conditioner (that has castor oil in it) to each section then detangle. I then add the oil (heavily I might add, about 1 tbs) to the root and ends of that section of hair and comb/brush through again to distribute the oil to the end. I braid that section and allow it to dry before continuing to whatever style I’m going to do. It keeps in my moisture and enhances my hair’s sheen.

Do you use these types of oils? How do you apply them? Which do you like best?
